FUTURE SRI LANKAN FILM MAKERS

The SLKN films reviewed in the past have been given many negative ratings by the SLFC. Needless to say some of the films that come out are appalling.

This is why we feel it appropriate to direct our readers to the works of some future SLKN film makers. Call it a "ray of cinematic hope."

We've selected 6 short films made my Sri Lankans that display some originality. Of course Art is Subjective, so please take the time to view each short film.
Then let us know which one is the best and why in our "comments" section.

Afterwards He Fell Asleep

Rock'n'Crack

Muzzle

Life Circle

Valentine Crush

The Isle Of Hypocrites

AFTERWARDS HE FELL ASLEEP:
had the most real life gritty feel. The conversations were natural and captured the attitude of the characters. Didn't have a strong close!

ROCK'N'CRACK:
Good start but became an attempt at becoming to artistic. sexual frustation has been a common topic in recent short films, this offered nothing new. Long unedited shots cannot be appreciate if there is no tension or interest.
The music montage was creative but not cohesive as it didn't hold the whole story together.

MUZZLE:
Clear, crisp, solid shots, well framed and lit. Storywise it is only a thought, but a strong point. Hit the nail on the head

LIFE CIRCLE
very elaborate and impressive set, especially as it evolves with the womans' suffering. Again it is only a thought and not a story. There was no real progression and did not hold interest, it actually got boring after a minute...because NOTHING HAPPENS! But definite talent is seen with the camera work and set.

VALENTINE CRUSH:
as simple as this movie is it was the most complete story from all of those on this list. It has characters, a story arc, and a conclusion. This is a film, despite it being simple.
The camera work was effective and matched the mood.
